DIAGNOSTIC TEST

STEP 1

Grab a piece of loose-leaf paper and create two columns. Number the first column 1-16.

STEP 2

Read each word once to your child.  Try to use each of them in a sentence as you go along. Then read the word one more time before proceeding to the next word.

EX: dog…..My dog runs fast…..dog.

STEP 3

If they missed more than two spelling words, stop here and begin with Level 3.

STEP 4

If they spelled 14-16 words correctly, then number the second column 17-33.

STEP 5

Read each word once to your child.  Try to use each of them in a sentence as you go along. Then read the word one more time before proceeding to the next word.

EX: pickle….May I have a pickle with my sandwich?……pickle

STEP 6

If they missed more than two spelling words, stop here and begin with Level 4.

STEP 7

Turn the paper over and number one column 34-50.

STEP 8

Read each word once to your child.  Try to use each of them in a sentence as you go along. Then read the word one more time before proceeding to the next word.

EX: rendezvous….The rendezvous is set for 10:00am….rendezvous

STEP 9

 If they missed more than two spelling words, stop here and begin with Level 5.

STEP 10

If they didn’t miss any spelling words, reward your child!  They are working at a 12th grade spelling level!
